Irrigatiion

Irrigation        It is unknown who first irrigated his crops with water brought specially from a nearby river, but archeological evidence suggests that, where ever farming began to take place, irrigation soon followed. There is evidence of irrigation from around 6000 B.C.E in summer in Mesopotamia, and also on ancient Egyptian farms near the Nile. Some 2000 years later, irrigation occurred in Geokysur in South Russia, and in the Zana valley in the Andes Mountains of Peru. By 3000 B.C.E the same techniques were used by the Indus valley civilization in what is now Pakistan.         When,at around 6000 B.C.E, the first farmers in Mesopotamia  planted their crops of barley, wheat and other plants near the Tigris or Euphrates rivers, they relied on rain, the occasional flood, and the ability of the soil to hold water to ensure that their crops grew from seed to harvest. Water could be carried in buckets from the river, but if the rain stopped and there was a lengthy drought, the crops w

Soap

Soap↠               Soap, in the form we know it today, was first produced by the Babylonians in around 2800 B.C.E. Clay cylinders containing a soap like material were found during excavations of Babylon. Engraved in the side of a cylinder was a recipe for boiling fats wit h ashes.                                                                                                                                                                                   Soap works by acting an emulsifying agent. Each soap molecule consists of a long, fatty tail and an electrical charged head. In water the soap molecules from small spheres, called micelles, where the charged heads are on the outside and the water repelling fatty chains are in the middle. As dirt and greases are not soluble in water, they are contained within the micelles. The micelles can then be washed away, leaving behind a clean surface.                                              True soap was made by boiling oil

Radar

Radar➨                  In 1935,with hostilities looming in Europe, the British government asked Scottish physicist Robert Watson Watt to develop a personnel-destroying "death ray" that could harm the opposition. Watson Watt demonstrated that this was an impossible ambition. However, he theorized that a radio wave could be sent to bounce against a moving object and monitoring its travel could then provide information  about the target, such as its speed, direction of travel and altitude.                     This could also determine the distance from the transmitter of fixed objects. A demonstration won favor with the government, and Watson-Watt subsequently gave the technology the name Radar(Radio detection and ranging).           Military Radar                      By the beginning of  World War ||. Watson-Watt had installed a chain of Radar stations across the United Kingdom, and two other British physicist,Henry Boot and John T Randall, developed his con

Facts about DEATH

DEATH➽         Like birth, death too is a part of our life. When we think about it, our mind conjures up images of cemeteries and old people. But death can also come to younger people, through illness or accidents. The way bereavement is handled differs from person to person, and from culture to culture. Many also argue in favour of euthanasia, or mercy, killing,in a situation where a person is in a permanent state of coma or in extreme pain and agony due to an incurable disease.   What happens when people become old ❓     People get wrinkles on the skin and grey hair when they grew old.The actual ageing process takes place inside the body. The efficiency of the body cells goes down over the years. At some point of time, muscles start shrinking, sense organs like eye and ear grow weak, and the body's general energy level dips. Many old people appear confused;others remain alert till the end. In some cultures, old people take leave of their loved ones and go into solitude unti

Antilock Braking System (ABS)

Antilock Braking System (ABS)             The Antilock Braking System (ABS) was designed by Frenchman Gabriel Voisin (1880-1973),originally as a way of preventing planes from swerving on landing. He first installed a system to keep airplane brakes from locking up 1920. Several decades later, after limited success with similar systems in cars a breakthrough came in 1978, when Mercedes-Benz announced the installation of electronic ABS in its S-Class car.              Theoretically, ABS can stop a serious car accident from occurring by allowing a driver to maintain control in slippery conditions or during an emergency stop. On an icy road, a car's wheels can lock up, sending the vehicle to spin. In cold cars that did not have ABS, drivers had to try to pump the brakes to prevent this. With ABS, the brakes are automatically pumped-the system senses the change in condition and alters the brake fluid pressure accordingly. Meanwhile the driver keeps his or her foot firmly on th

Drugs...

Drugs➽                         Earlier, the term 'drugs' referred to drie d parts of plants that had  an intoxicant effect and were  used   for medicinal purpose. Today, the term also includes those substances which induce a state of dreamy forgetfulness and are thus often used by people who want to temporarily escape from reality. Soft drugs, such as alcohol or tobacco, which are found in cigarettes or cigars, can be purchased anywhere; however, they too can be injurious to health if taken in excess. In contrast, hard drugs, such as Heroin or Cocaine are prohibited. But they are still smuggled across borders from other countries where they are produced. What happens  when one takes hard Drugs ❓                          Hard drugs, such as heroin or LSD,often lead to addiction the very first time they are taken. Once the drug enters the body, it immediately creates a need in the body to take in more of  the same substance to induced the desired effect. If the s

Early Signs Of Life on Earth

Early  Signs  Of  Life͍  On  Earth ⤘             For almost a thousand m illion years ago after the earth formation, there was no life on Earth. The first simple see-dwelling organic structures appeared about 3,500 million years ago . Scientist say that they may have formed when certain chemical molecules were joined together. Prokaryotes, single celled micro organisms such as blue green algae, were able to photosynthesize and thus produce Oxygen.                             A thousand million years later, sufficient oxygen had built up in the Earth's atmosphere to allow multicellular organisms to proliferate in the precambrian seas (before 5 70 million years ago). Soft-bodied jellyfish, corals, and seaworms flourished about 700 million years ago. Trilobites, the first animals with hard body frames, developed during the cambrian period(570-510 million years ago).                 However it was not until the beginning of the Devonian period(409-363

History of Alcoholic Drink

Other jugs have been excavated in Southwest Asia and North Africa.                   Alcoholic bever ages have been an integral part of many, used as a source of nutrition, in meals, for celebrations, and also in religious ceremonies.Alcohol can give a sense of wellbeing, but also acts as a depressant, lowering behavioral inhibitions.                 Alcohol consumption became a status symbol for the wealthy. During the Middle Ages, concoctions were distilled to produce spirits.Alcohol has also served as a thirst quencher when water was polluted. In the 1700s, home-brewing processes were replaced by commercially made beer and wine, which beca
